As providers of Botox, Juvederm, and Restylane treatment in Los Angeles, the Eyesthetica team pays attention to the latest trends and news in cosmetic medicine. We were not surprised when a report recently released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) claimed injectable treatments saw a 21 percent increase in 2015. Our team has seen an uptick in requests for facial rejuvenation treatments reflected in our own practice, too. Here, we discuss the ASAPS findings in more detail.

More People Requesting Treatment with Cosmetic Injectables

Earlier this month, ASAPS, which is a leading organization devoted to cosmetic medicine of the face and body, released their annual statistics on the state of the industry.

Botox treatments and hyaluronic acid treatments (e.g., Juvederm and Restylane) were the top two non-surgical procedures in 2015; hair removal, chemical peel, and microdermabrasion rounded out the top five. There were more than 4.2 million Botox procedures and more than 2.1 million hyaluronic acid procedures performed last year, a 21 percent increase from 2014. In fact, more Botox and hyaluronic acid treatments were performed in 2015 than ever before.

Overall, non-surgical procedures accounted for 42 percent of the total expenditures in 2015. ASAPS claims that Americans spent more than $13.5 billion on cosmetic procedures last year.

Women make up the overwhelming majority of injectable treatment patients, although men are certainly starting to catch on. Nearly one out of 10 injectable treatment patients is a man.

ASAPS also collected data on surgical procedures performed in 2015. On the surgical side of the spectrum, eyelid surgery was one of the top five most popular procedures in 2015, with more than 169,700 eyelid procedures performed. It was the most common surgical procedure in the 65 and over age range. Men accounted for more than 32 percent of the total number of eyelid surgery patients.
