ARE YOU READY TO LOOK AS

YOUNG AS YOU FEEL?

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty in Los Angeles

Your eyelids are one of the most important aesthetic regions of the face. If your lower eyelids are making you look tired or older than you feel, lower eyelid surgery or “Lower Blepharoplasty” may be the solution for you. In a lower blepharoplasty the redundant under-eye skin and/or fat is removed or repositioned. When performing cosmetic lower eyelid surgery with our Healthy Blink Blepharoplasty™ technique, the result is a more youthful, rested appearance, while maintaining the health and natural eye appearance you desire. At Eyesthetica, we perform over 2500 blepharoplasties each year and are confident with the care of your eyes and eyelids.

What is a lower eyelid blepharoplasty?

Our doctors customize the approach to your lower eyelids based on your individual needs. Generally, the excess lower eyelid fat is removed or repositioned through an incision hidden inside the eyelid (transconjunctivally) so that there are no visible scars. A minimal amount of excess lower lid skin can usually be treated with a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing at the same time as your surgery. For moderate to large amounts of extra lower eyelid skin, a hidden “skin pinch” incision just below the eyelashes is used to safely remove skin while preserving the muscle of eyelid blinking. The overall goal of surgery is younger looking under eyelid skin and a smooth transition from your eyelids to your cheeks without anyone being able to tell you had anything done!

What makes Lower eyelid blepharoplasty at Eyesthetica different?

The eyelids have the most complex anatomy and delicate skin of any part of the body. With over 40 years of combined experience in cosmetic eyelid surgery and revisional surgery to fix problems created from surgery elsewhere, the doctors at Eyesthetica are able to deliver spectacular cosmetic results that are natural appearing and preserve the comfort of your eyes. We accomplish these goals using our Healthy Blink Blepharoplasty™ technique, which preserves the muscle needed for eyelid blinking, avoids a “hollow appearance”, and utilizes hidden incisions. With every surgery, we strive to provide you with a “wow” result while avoiding some of the typical risks of surgery.

Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery of the Upper Face Book

The surgeons at Eyesthetica are constantly pioneering new methods of oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. As experts in their field, their recent book, Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery of the Upper Face, is an invaluable resource for other surgeons as well as patients interested in learning more about oculofacial surgery.

Are there any other options for my lower eyelid “bags”?

In addition to surgery to remove your lower eyelid “bags”, there are other non-surgical or minimally invasive treatments that may help you achieve your goals. Sometimes, eyelid bags are caused by wrinkles in the skin that would benefit from Botox, skin resurfacing, chemical peels, or other skin treatments. If the “bag” is caused by volume loss in the lower eyelid or face, filler or fat grafting may be used to restore youthful volume without surgery. An in-person or virtual evaluation will allow our doctors to review which treatment options would be best for you.

Lower Blepharoplasty and Recovery

Lower blepharoplasty is an outpatient surgery that allows you to return home the same day. Surgery itself takes about 1 hour. Obvious bruising and swelling typically lasts 2-3 weeks; however, most patients return to work within the first week.

Cold compresses the first 2 days after surgery are used to lessen bruising and swelling. The eyes are usually left open after surgery and any stitches are removed after 5-7 days. Discomfort is usually minimal, though most patients report noticeably blurry vision for the first few days and are able to continue activities of daily living such as cooking and bathing within 2-3 days. Strenuous activities such as yoga or weight lifting can be restarted about 2 weeks after surgery.

You can expect to start enjoying the result of your surgery and look “camera ready” in just 2-3 months!
