Michael A. Burnstine, M.D.

Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology
USC Roski Eye Institute, Keck Medicine of USC

Dr. Michael Burnstine earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, residency and chief residency at Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, and fellowship at University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago with Allen M. Putterman, M.D. He subsequently was recruited to become the Director of the Oculofacial Surgery Division at the Doheny Eye Institute at USC prior to joining Dr. Steven Dresner and forming Eyesthetica. At both USC and Eyesthetica, Dr. Burnstine served as the medical director of the offices.

Dr. Burnstine is currently a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology (part time) at the University of Southern California Roski Eye Institute, teaching ophthalmology residents and fellows the finer points of oculofacial surgery. He is the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) Fellowship Program Director at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California, one of sixty such programs across the U.S. He has helped train many oculofacial plastic surgery fellows (13), USC ophthalmology residents and USC medical students.

Dr. Burnstine lectures locally, nationally and internationally. His most recent international lectures have been in Iran and India. He has many peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in the literature on aesthetic facial implants, orbital trauma management, and tumors in the orbit and eyelids.
Dr. Burnstine is an introvert who enjoys making 1:1 connections with his patients to help define and deliver their desired aesthetic and functional results. He is known in the community as the doctor’s doctor. In his spare time, he likes to read, hike in the San Gabriel and Palos Verdes hills, and spend time with his wife and 2 sons.
