Prepping ahead of time makes the recovery from a procedure like eyelid surgery or brow lift a stress-free experience. The oculoplastic surgeon team at Los Angeles area at Eyesthetica would like to share the following tips for preparing for your post-op recovery.

Ask Questions

You should receive detailed instructions from our doctors regarding your recovery, but don’t hesitate to ask any additional questions you have. Be sure you are clear about the following:

  • What medications to take after surgery (and when)
  • When to return to the office for a follow-up
  • When dressings/bandages will be removed and whether you should change them on your own
  • When stitches/sutures will be removed (if applicable)
  • When you can return to work, exercise and socializing
  • Any signs or symptoms to watch out for

If you have any questions during your recovery, one of our doctors is available around-the-clock to speak with you. We’re only a phone call away!

Fill Your Prescriptions

Our doctors will also give you several prescriptions to fill; these oral and topical medications reduce your risk of post-op infection and can minimize any pain. Have your prescriptions filled ahead of time so the medication is there when you need it. Double-check the instructions for how much and how often to take each medication.

Prep Your Home

It’s a good idea to have some necessities on-hand for your recovery. You won’t have the energy to run errands right after surgery. Stock your fridge with nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals and snacks, and plenty of liquids like water and juice. Store a couple of cold compresses or bags of peas or corn in your freezer. You will be relaxing for most of the day, so arrange your bedroom or living room area with entertainment (e.g., books, TV, electronics) nearby. Make sure you have lots of clean clothes and linens so you don’t have to worry about doing laundry. Depending on the procedure you have, you might want to use old sheets and pillowcases in case you have mild bleeding. Put fluffy pillows on your bed or couch so you can sleep with your head upright for the first few nights after surgery.
