Ready to make your eyes come alive again? Our highly trained team of Los Angeles area oculoplastic surgeons at Eyesthetica are here to help with these four tips for younger-looking eyes.

1.     Get Your Beauty Sleep

There’s no way of getting around it: your eyes need sleep in order to look rested, refreshed, and youthful. Lack of sleep causes stress to activate your body’s adrenal glands, which then overproduce stress hormones and create more inflammation in the body, accelerating the skin’s aging process. This is why, when you don’t get enough sleep for long periods of time, you get puffy eyes, under-eye bags, and more noticeable crow’s feet lines —all of which create the appearance of an aged, fatigued face. To combat this, aim for six to eight consecutive hours of sleep a night. There are five stages of sleep in which healing takes place, and your body needs to get through all the stages uninterruptedly in order for your cortisol and insulin levels to produce more collagen, for growth hormones to surge and for skin tissue to repair.

2.     Use an Anti-Aging Eye Cream

The skin around the eye is the thinnest and most delicate skin on the entire body. Because of this, it needs constant, gentle attention to preserve some of its elasticity while aging. Choosing a good anti-aging eye cream and using it day and night is essential for keeping our eyes looking bright. SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum® offers an unprecedented combination of the growth factors targeted to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and enhance skin texture and tone. The patented formula utilizes naturally occurring growth factors, antioxidants, soluble collagen, cytokines, and matrix proteins (93.6% concentration). Additionally, the TNS Essential Serum® formulation of antioxidants and peptides work to smooth skin, help fight free radical damage, minimize the appearance of skin discoloration and improve the overall appearance of skin. This eye cream is like chicken soup for your skin!

3.     Create the Effect with Makeup

For times when you need an instant eye pick-me-up, use makeup to hide the effects of aging on your eyes. Pick a yellow-based concealer that is at least two shades lighter than your skin and dab it under the eyes, from the inner to the outer corners. Gently dab the concealer until it’s blended, being careful not to pull at the skin, which causes more wrinkles over time. Finish it off with a loose powder in the same shade as the concealer. Women may wish to continue this effect, using dark eyeliner on the upper eyelid only, and a lighter color or no color on the lower lid. This will create an open-eyed look that draws attention away from the crow’s feet and dark circles around the eyes.

4.     Consider Eyelid or Brow Lift Surgery

If you’re tired of quick fixes and seek a more permanent solution to fatigued, sagging eyelids, surgery might be an option for you. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be used to fix droopy upper eyelids or saggy, baggy lower eyelids — both of which contribute to a worn-out, uninviting facial expression. With excess skin removed and the remaining skin tightened for a natural lift, people will notice that you look more rested, but won’t be able to put their finger on why. And brow lift surgery elevates the forehead and eyebrows to a higher position, smoothing out forehead wrinkles and lifting and opening the eyes for an overall refreshed-looking face.
